Etisalat Is Ready to Boost E-Learning in NIgeria

Etisalat is set to boost the e-learning space for students in Nigeria with the launch of Cliqlite Portal, an internet-enabled application that offers unlimited access to a wide range of educational materials.

Speaking at the launch event in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher, expressed confidence in the ability of the new educational service to enhance the learning experience of students in primary and secondary schools respectively through an engaging combination of education and fun.

“The product is an innovative service that supports education and learning. It gives both students and parents access to educational materials not just on the tablet, but also on any internet enabled-device,” he said.

Speaking further, Willsher added that the initiative highlights the importance the company attaches to quality education as well as its commitment to investing in the education sector through a number of platforms among which include the bespoke Adopt-a-School Programme, Etisalat Telecommunications Engineering Post-graduate Programme (ETEPP), Career Counselling and Merit Awards.

Etisalat Cliqlite was introduced two years ago, according to the company, as the first indigenous educational product on a tablet by any telecommunication firm to improve the learning experience of students. It offers a bouquet of NERDC- approved education materials such as text books and instructional lessons on different subjects, past questions from JAMB, SSCE and IGCSE and interactive games that students and parents can use together to make learning fun.

Offering more insights on the portal, Ifeoluwa Oyeyipo, Manager, Teen Segment, explained that Cliqlite Portal was borne out of the need to expand the access scope of the educational product to millions of children and students.

“Cliqlite has been a huge break with testimonials of success among students. We wanted to expand the scope to enable millions of students who have other internet-enabled devices access the product and enrich their learning experience. By this, we are using what they love to give them what they need which is quality education,” she said.

The Etisalat Cliqlite Portal is aimed at making learning fun through the availability of unique learning materials, which can be accessed through any internet enabled device by customers and potential customers on the Etisalat network.

The Cliqlite Portal is designed with different attractive features and benefits that appeal to different grades of users. Its benefits include free birthday reward and 100% bonus on monthly data purchase from 200MB to 10GB with extra 100% bonus to browse.

President Jonathan "ENDS QUARREL" With Obasanjo

President Goodluck Jonathan seems to have improved on his relationship with former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, after sending him a rare message of commiseration on the death of his sister, Adunni Oluniola Eweje-Obasanjo. Since Obasanjo’s letter to the president went viral in December 2013, the president stopped all forms of felicitation or commiseration with the former head of state. Before then, though, Jonathan had “nothing but the greatest respect for Obasanjo” and he had said he would not probe his benefactor. “The president has nothing but the greatest respect for Chief Obasanjo’s very notable contributions to national growth and development over many years and far from taking offence or seeking retaliation, will always welcome objective criticism and advice from the very highly-regarded elder statesman,” Reuben Abati, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, wrote in 2013. Evidence of a sour relationship between the duo came to fore in December, when Abati, ...

Fabric that stores information invisibly, without electronics

A new type of smart fabric developed at the University of Washington could pave the way for jackets that store invisible passcodes and open the door to your apartment or office. The UW computer scientists have created fabrics and fashion accessories that can store data -- from security codes to identification tags -- without needing any on-board electronics or sensors. Using magnetic properties of conductive thread, University of Washington researchers are able to store data in fabric. In this example, the code to unlock a door is stored in a fabric patch and read by an array of magnetometers. As described in a paper presented Oct. 25 at the Association for Computing Machinery's User Interface Software and Technology Symposium (UIST 2017), they leveraged previously unexplored magnetic properties of off-the-shelf conductive thread. The data can be read using an instrument embedded in existing smartphones to enable navigation apps. "This is a completely electronic-f...
