Doctor to be dragged to court for allegedly defiling his wife's niece

The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has disclosed that it will today November 21, arraign the Medical Director (MD) of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation (OCCF), Dr Femi Olaleye, for allegedly defiling his wife's 16-year-old niece. Olaleye was accused of raping the minor who was living with him and his wife at their residence in the state, after the girl's father died. It was learned that the doctor allegedly deflowered the minor after introducing her to pornography. He was also accused of perpetrating the crime for about 19 months until the wife discovered and reported the matter to the Lagos State Police Command for investigation. The policemen detailed to investigate the case reportedly arrested Olaleye and the case was transferred to the Gender Unit of the police command, where an Investigative Police Officer, Bimbo Williams, was assigned to handle the case from March 2022. Prices of Maize, Rice and other food commodities to rise in December, 2022 – Survey

One of Nigeria’s commodities market players, AFEX has forecasted a surge in prices of six food commodities, namely maize, paddy rice, sorghum, soybean, cocoa and sesame by the end of December 2022 to the first half of 2023. AFEX’s forecast is contained in its 2022 Wet Season Crop Production Report unveiled at a hybrid event hosted at the firm’s head office in Abuja on Wednesday. The report said maize which faces a projected decline in production levels of up to 14% will reach a higher average price point ranging between N214, 980/metric ton ($486.72) and N220,000/metric ton ($498.09) by the end of the fourth quarter (Q4) 2022. According to the report, this is compared to an average price of ($475.97) N210, 229/metric ton in Q4 2021, and projected that soybean price will rise by 6% by May 2023. Game Awards 2022 Nominations: ‘God of War Ragnarök,’ ‘Elden Ring’ and ‘Horizon Forbidden West’ Dominate

The Nominations for the Game Awards 2022, which celebrate the most cutting-edge voices of the year in gaming, have been announced. "God of War Ragnarök"  leads the pack with a whopping ten nominations, including Game of the Year and Best Game Direction. Variety praised the highly anticipated game in a recent review, calling it “a 10 out of 10, checking every box with a combination of pulse-pounding action, humor and character development that will stay with players long after they’ve completed the campaign.” "Ragnarök" is followed by " Elden Ring" and "Horizon Forbidden West,"  which each racked up seven nods, including for Game of the Year. Amazon plans to lay off about 10,000 employees starting this week

Amazon.com Inc is planning to lay off about 10,000 people in corporate and technology jobs starting as soon as this week, the New York Times reported on Monday, citing people with knowledge of the matter. The cuts will focus on the e-commerce giant's devices unit, which houses voice-assistant Alexa, as well as its retail division and human resources, according to the report, which also said the total number of layoffs remains fluid. The company did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. As of Dec. 31 last year, Amazon had about 1,608,000 full-time and part-time employees. Amazon joins a bandwagon of U.S. companies making deep cuts to its employee base to brace for a potential economic downturn. CSOs (Civil Society Organizations) frown at removal of sex education from curriculum

On Thursday, November 3, the Federal Government directed the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) to delete sex education from the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC). The NERDC is an agency of the Federal Government that is charged with the responsibility of implementing educational policies in the country. Headed by its executive secretary, Prof. Ismail Junaidu, the organisation, which prides itself as the think-tank of Nigerian education and development, was formally recognised by law in 1988 viz an enabling Decree No. 53 (now ACT No. 53) that merged four educational research and development bodies into a single agency.
